Goran Parađina aka Reblok was born in Split and is currently located in Novi Sad, Serbia. He is one of the most talented producers from Balkan and one of the guys that is going to blow up in 2020. His tracks are being played by the biggest names in the industry like Jamie Jones, Fisher, David Guetta, Hardwell etc. He signed to labels like Hot Creations, Sola, Suara and many more. Following his huge success in 2019 especially with release of his EP “Smile” on Hot Creation, 2020 looks to be his year. Our team contacted Reblok for a short interview. Enjoy!
1. 2019 was a very successful year for you… Is this your best year so far and what are some key moments that happened last year?
Reblok: Definitelly was the most successful year so far, but its a decade of hard work that brought me here. Highlight was definitelly Repopulate Mars, Hot Creations, Lee Foss, Jamies Jones, Fisher.
2. How do you see last decade from your perspective as a DJ & producer?
Reblok: Trends are always changing… when i started out minimal techno was the most popular, then it was techno, nu disko after that, then deep house, and today techno and progressive house.. so its always changing and something new is going on… now its your choice to follow trends or stay relevant with your uniqe style, which is very hard and rare.
3. How would you describe your sound?
Reblok: Dark and hard mix between 2008-2012 electro-house and todays tech house with vocals on top almost always… few tracks of mine are done without vocals in the last year or so. Thats because i want to make tracks for dancefloors as well as for radio.
4. Biggest names in the industry are playing your tracks…How does it feel to see names like Diplo, Fisher, Jamie Jones play your tracks?
Reblok: To be honest i always make music so it can be played by “underground” djs as well as the biggest names like you just mentioned. That was always the goal and I didn’t want to make tracks just for one or the other. I am very happy that right now, many of the biggest names are playing my songs, but its something i expected to be honest, knowing the tracks i have been making.
5. This month you are releasing new track for Sola Records, as well as being in printed version od DJ Mag as one of the artists thats gonna blow up this year… Tell us more about it.
Reblok: Guys from Sola have been playing one of the tracks from the EP “Alone With You” for the past 2 months and the crowd reaction is insane. Thats why they are doing a special PR campaign for it. Blanc YT channel is going to premier the track and DJ Mag article is something that came along with all of that. We will see how the tracks does in the charts.
6. What is the key to success in music industry in your oppinion?
Reblok: Perseverance and skill. You need to be able to handle people the right way and also make good track, without good tracks none of the other stuff would have helped me.Your style has to be unique. Music is the key!
7. How important is music and how important is brand that is built around the artist? How much of your energy do you spend on marketing stuff?
Reblok: None in the last half year. Tracks did all the job form me.
8. What is your biggest virtue and the biggest flaw?
Reblok: Short temper and low tolerance for bullshit, and the virtue is that i like helping people when they have problems.
9. If you could choose to do b2b with any DJ in the world, who would you choose and why?
Reblok: Gesaffelstein.. because he is an inspiration… he managed to go from very dark and melancholic sound to go mainstream and today he is doing track with Lil Wayne, Kanye West, Weekend… his stlye is for me very unique and i like it very much.
10. Where can we hear you in next period?
Reblok: Two parties in Croatia in Zagreb and Rijeka and few that are not confirmed yet..
11. What can we expect from you in 2020?
Reblok: A lot of good stuff that i cant publicly talk about right now.
